South Shore Baseball Academy is a facility devoted to making dreams a reality. And it has. Many former students have succeeded in earning scholarships and professional status. This facility gives private professional baseball and softball instructions for all aspects of the game (batting, fielding, pitching and catching) to students ranging in age from 8-18. The knowledgeable staff includes owner and instructor Steve DiMarco who played professionally for the Baltimore Orioles and Instructor Michael Hughes who played professionally for The Cleveland Indians, The Montreal Expos and The LI Ducks. The softball instructors include NCAA Division I Stars Callie Osbourne (Hofstra), Jennifer Daddino (Hofstra) and Melissa Young (Indian River Junior College and Molloy). The institution’s goal is to instill confidence, refine mechanics, teach fundamentals, and promote a good work ethic for kids who want to realize their dreams.
S.S.B.A. is also the home of the S.S.B.A. All American/Team Rawlings Travel Teams for ages 13-18. In the few years since the teams have been established, they have earned several titles. The 18 year-old team, coached by Rich Grebinger won the FABL title in 2006 and the Cal Ripken Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina that same year. The 14 year old team, coached by Pat Spadaro and Steve Dato, won two consecutive FABL titles in 2006 and 2007. And in 2007 The 13 year-old team, coached by Jim Orlando, Jim Gallagher and Tom Appell, won the April Fool’s Tournament in the Rockaways and became the Long Island World Series Champions at Baseball Heaven. They also earned the title of Diamond Pro Fall Champs that same year.
